tonight, i overhear the boss of another design team talking about how the building should look like: it can’t be too organic or too technical, it should be somewhere in between, something that can’t be understood at first glance, it needs a little mystery to it.
they’re working on a skyscraper in the middle east. but a skyscraper just doesn’t go up anymore, it can’t go anywhere…

maybe, we take elevators for granted. we walk in at ground level and leave with our feet either in the sky or underground. sometimes, we take it up, sometimes we take down, and sometimes, the elevator just stops, like the ordeal of nicholas white, who went out for a cigarette break and was trapped in an elevator for forty-one hours.

reminds me of that deep hole noru climbed into in the wind-up bird chronicles. or die hard, when bruce willis climbs out through the top.
